Grant Wood AEA Innovation Grants

Grant Wood AEA has a fiscal responsibility as an agency to have an adequate reserve and use the remaining funds to provide for staff and resources to support the work. At this time we have an adequate reserve, and we are working hard to provide staff the resources necessary to support their work.

We know that pursuit of excellence in education means we never stand still. Reaching our goals requires a process of continuous learning, new approaches and experimentation throughout all areas of the agency. Committed to the pursuit of innovation and staying on the cutting edge of education in our state, Grant Wood AEA will make $25,000 available to continue to keep the agency on the path of excellence and creativity.

Any Grant Wood AEA staff member interested in applying for an innovation grant may find information and the application form at These funds can only be used for added work days and materials and resources.

Applications will be due Feb. 14.

Selected applicants will be expected to present their innovation plans at the next Grant Wood AEA Innovation Day, which will be held on the afternoon of April 2, 2012.

Recycling reminder...

Recycle bins for paper and plastic are accessible in various agency locations. Thanks for choosing to recycle!

The iPad1’s are back in the Staff Distribution Center

This information may also be found on the SDC Google page.

The Staff Distribution Center has 16 original iPad1s back in circulation. They contain the free applications that have been placed on all staff iPads.  These iPads do not have a camera but should work well for staff who are working with teachers.

Procedures for use:

  • Please call the SDC at 319-399-6568 to schedule an iPad.  At the present time they are not listed in the SDC Online Catalog.

  • iPads will circulate for 20 days.  Initially, to accommodate all requests, there will be no extensions or double bookings.

  • The iPads are locked to prevent addition or removal of applications.

  • Updates will be done on a regular basis as needed.

  • If an iPad is checked out and left at a school, as with all Media Center materials, it is the staff member’s responsibility to make sure the teacher knows when the item should be returned.

Procedures for adding applications:

  • Requests for new applications will be accepted from Grant Wood AEA staff only.  Teachers may want to make suggestions to staff for consideration.

  • Before recommending an application be purchased, staff should check the Grant Wood iPad website to see what apps are available free of charge.

  • If there is a free app that can be downloaded, the information for that app should be recorded on the form Request to Add App to SDC iPad.

  • Submit that form to SDC staff.

  • Apps will be considered and approved following already established guidelines for adding applications.

  • New applications will be added twice a year.

For more information on the SDC iPads please contact Char Haddy, Kim Novotny or Judy Bibeau (scheduling).
