Nominations due to Communications Office for Grant Wood AEA Staff Recognition and Partnerships Banquet

April 14, 2011

Grant Wood AEA Staff Recognition and Partnerships Banquet
Longbranch Hotel and Convention Center, Cedar Rapids

We Need Your Nominations!

Saying “thank you” to your co-workers, community volunteers and/or the people with whom you work can be wonderfully uplifting to these special people. It can also be satisfying and meaningful to you, personally.  Please consider nominating one or more persons you have worked with or observed as “going the extra mile” with children, youth or schools in Area 10. The categories you may nominate individuals for are:

  • Friend of Education (usually business and community partners)

  • Educational Partner (usually school personnel)

  • Caring Colleague (GWAEA staff only)

Only GWAEA staff may nominate people for these awards.  A random group of Grant Wood AEA staff members always comprises the awards selection committee.

Contact George Held (ext 6714) or Valerie Taylor Hill (6824) or email us your nomination formNominations are due by February 18 in the Communications Office.

The awards will be presented at the Grant Wood AEA Staff Recognition and Partnerships Banquet, which will be held at the Longbranch Convention Center in Cedar Rapids on Thursday, April 14.

Education Forum Draws Large Crowd

Between 220 and 300 people attended the education forum held at Grant Wood AEA on Tuesday, Jan. 18. Participants had an opportunity to see students manipulating a virtual reality set-up in the lobby as they arrived. During the meeting, they listened to a panel discussing the needs of education, then broke up into individual tables to discuss a variety of questions about education and how they would like to see it change. Iowa’s new director of education, Jason Glass, attended the event. He spoke briefly to the audience telling them it was his second full day on the job. The event was organized by the United Way and Grant Wood AEA.

College for Kids receives scholarship donations

For the third year, the Thursday Noon Optimists have supported Grant Wood AEA's College for Kids scholarship fund.

Green also shared that the Rockwell Collins Partnership Fund will again provide financial support for the College for Kids scholarship fund. Rockwell Collins has provided financial support to College for Kids since 2006.

New Login to Professional Development Registration

Beginning January 4, the Grant Wood AEA Professional Development registration system has a new login screen for user ease.  If you have not logged into your account since January 4, you will log in the first time using your first and last name and your driver’s license or social security number – whichever you have used in the past.  If you have previously had an account, you will NOT need to create a new profile. The first time you access the system through this new log in screen, you will need to create a username and password.

professionaldevelopment

This can be whatever is convenient for you to remember.  You will not need to log in with your driver's license number or your social security number in the future unless you use these as your password. You will log in with the username and password that you create.  You will also be asked to update your user profile.  This will provide us with up-to-date demographic information, agency of employment, and current emails.  Then, confirm this information by clicking on the “update profile” button.

If you have inadvertently created accounts under both your social security number and your driver’s license number in the past, the system will indicate that it cannot find your account because it will see two people with your name.  You will need to contact either Connie Russell at 399-6767 or Tammy Carolan at 399- 6771.
