Sixth Street Security Update – Back Door Now Locked

If you have traditionally entered the Sixth Street agency facility through the back door (the one near the bunker), you will find it locked at all times, starting on Monday, January 11. If you have a scan card, however, you’ll be able to enter with no problem. Please contact Mike Kiely to get a scan card.
The scanner is quite sensitive. If you come to the door with your hands full, you don’t have to take the card from your purse or pocket and swipe it across the scanner like you do with bank debit cards. You can attach the scan card to your ID badge lanyard. By merely stepping close to the scanner with the scan card on your lanyard, the door should unlock. If you need to get into the upstairs portion of the building after hours, the scan card will provide you this access.

Census planned during March

2010 is another census year for the United States. Census data is used for congressional apportionment, legislative and congressional redistricting, as well as to determine funding and locations for schools, housing, child-care centers, shopping centers, roads and more. These improvements can have a significant impact on the lives of everyone in our community. The Census will occur in March of this year and will be delivered to your homes via the mail.
This is one of the shortest census forms in history, the 2010 Census form asks 10 questions and takes about 10 minutes to complete. Census Day will be April 1, 2010, the official day of the population count. Please complete and mail back your responses upon receipt of the form. Census workers will visit households that do not return their forms to take a count in person. If you’d like to receive more information about the 2010 Census, visit

Using Google Docs and Sites
This workshop will cover how you can use Google Docs to increase collaboration writing, spreadsheets, presentations, and assessment/data collection. We will also explore Google Sites as a way of publishing information and even creating a controlled online learning experience for your staff and learning community! Thank you

Thank you so much to all of my GWAEA friends for their expressions of sympathy on the loss of my father-in-law, Milton Polehna. Your thoughtfulness touched my family as we dealt with losing a loved one during the holidays. We appreciate your kindness.

Blanket collection through Jan. 15

Leslee Sandberg is once again conducting a blanket drive for families and individuals who live in the Wellington Heights area. Starting the Monday after Thanksgiving, please bring new or gently used blankets that you’re willing to donate. A box will be set up in the employee break room to receive contributions. We will collect the blankets through January 15. They will be distributed to individuals through the Loaves and Fishes program in the Heights area.

Thank you from the Shelter!

A great big thank you goes out to all of the staff members who purchased gifts for the animals in the Vinton animal shelter. The shelter staff reported, “It was so thoughtful and it's amazing how much the animals enjoyed and were intrigued by the toys, bags, and boxes.”

Stacy Murphy, who coordinated the effort, said, “Grant Wood employees have the biggest hearts of any group out there!
Thank you all!”
