Organizational Leadership Program applications due March 15

Applications are now being accepted for Grant Wood AEA staff interested in applying for the 2012-2013 Organizational Leadership program.
Participants will spend two years in the program, developing essential knowledge and skills for leading in an organization and working as a cohort group to learn and apply leadership and systems theory.  Each participant is assigned to a Leadership Advisor, who helps provide assignments and projects that expose them to areas different than their usual job.  Participants also participate in field experiences to observe and engage in dialogue with position leaders at work.
A small cohort of participants is selected each year through an application process. Participants completing their second year in the cohort include Mary Crandall, Barb Hunt, Mark Hartung and Kay Schieffer.  This year Megan Burke-Brunscheen, Lindsay Copp, Ronda Hilbert and Melva Starr began their first year of leadership development.
Grant Wood AEA employees desiring to apply for this program must complete an application and send it, along with other requested documents, to Lisa Fry, Programs/Services Administrator, by March 15, 2012.  Applications for the Organizational Leadership Program can be found on the GWAEA website at the following address:

iPad Update 2/10/12

by Stacy Behmer, Coordinator of Digital Learning Technology

There are quite a few things this week, so please read carefully! If you have any iPad questions please feel free to email me or and we will try to clarify things the best we can!

We have removed access to the Apple Account. This means that you will not be able to update any apps that were downloaded on this account, or be able to sign in with this account to download any future apps. We have had some issues with people installing apps on that account and making purchases instead of using their agency Apple ID or personal Apple ID. This means the original apps that came on your device won’t be able to be updated. We are recommending you remove those apps and reinstall the ones you like on either your personal or agency account. Here are directions on how to transfer apps to another account.

If you did not order apps and need your agency Apple ID please let us know and we can set up a time to finish the set up for you or you can create a personal Apple ID, you can get one for free by following the instructions here.

Open Minds, Open Doors for 7th-8th grade girls planned
Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2012

Open Minds, Open Doors is a half-day conference intended to encourage middle school girls (7th-8th grades) to pursue career fields with foundations in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).

The conference has experienced continuous positive responses from area schools. For several years in a row, the conference has exceeded capacity, while still turning away 50-100 girls.  In an effort to address this issue, the 2012 conference will no longer be available to 6th-grade girls, but will instead be limited to 7th and 8th-grade girls only.  The conference will cap registration at 500 girls.

Participants attend hands-on workshops conducted by professional women representing a variety of STEM careers in the Cedar Rapids-Iowa City corridor.

Open Minds, Open Doors is a partnership between Grant Wood AEA, Workplace Learning Connection, the American Association of University Women (AAUW), and Coe College

The 2012 conference date is set for Tuesday, Oct.16, 2012.  Registration information will be sent to area schools in September 2012.

For questions, contact Susie Green, GWAEA student programs specialist, Ext. 6775 or
