The five focus groups will be comprised of a variety of stakeholders including, superintendents, principals, teachers, parents, and every GWAEA employee group.  Every member of the Agency's Advisory Council, which is comprised of representatives from all regions and all employee groups, received an invitation to participate in a focus group.

Staff may find the job posting information on the Tryon and Associates website at: http://www.gtryon.com/GrantWoodAEA.htm.

Staff Update

A videocast will be released later next week with an update on the agency’s staffing situation. In the meantime, we are pleased to report that recall procedures have been initiated for five employees since February 11.

I-Plan Server Will Be Down Monday Morning

On Monday, February 28 from 8:00 – approximately noon, the Iowa I-Plan application will be unavailable while the application is moved to a different server.  During the changing of the servers, the URL for the Iowa I-Plan will change.  If consumers go to the “old” URL or address, they will be redirected to the new URL or address. Please encourage your customers to bookmark this new URL.

This planned outage will not impact any other applications such as web IEP, IMS, Gen Ed Intervention Plan or web IFSP.  Therefore, notice of this outage will not be posted on www.iowaidea.org.

Google Apps Update
by Andy Crozier, GWAEA coordinator of digital technology

We are now six weeks into our Google Apps transition. The technology team would like to thank all of our staff for being flexible and patient with us during this time! So far, the transition has gone extremely well and our staff deserve the credit! I wanted to send a quick update on some things Google Apps related.

Google Apps

A few common misconceptions....

#1. You can't share anything within our Google Apps domain with individuals outside of our domain. False. You are more than welcome to share calendars, docs, and even Sites with individuals outside of Grant Wood AEA. The only hiccup is Sites, which requires a very minor extra step for individuals to access your Site inside the domain. Please consult a tech consultant on sharing Google Sites in our domain to external clients.

#2. Your docs and calendars automatically transferred from your aea10 or gmail account to your new gwaea.org account. False. We worked hard to bring Sites into our domain, but it was done manually not through an automated process. Docs and calendars are done the same way. Problem is, it would take us a ton of time to do this for every staff member. Luckily, we have given you some resources at the bottom of this update to help you with this process.

#3. Since moving to our Apps domain using the gwaea.org email, your aea10 email is no longer active. False. The email is actually just an account name in Google Apps. Google Apps has no effect on our email system as we still continue to use the IPSwitch server for email. Both aea10.k12.ia.us and gwaea.org emails point to the same place and will not be effected by our Google Apps domain. Please remember when logging in to your Grant Wood AEA Google Apps domain, you will need to use your gwaea.org email.

Organizational Leadership Program applications due March 11

Applications are now being accepted for Grant Wood AEA staff interested in applying for the 2011-2012 Organizational Leadership program.

Participants will spend two years in the program, developing essential knowledge and skills for leading in an organization and working as a cohort group to learn and apply leadership and systems theory.  Each participant is assigned to a Leadership Advisor, who helps provide assignments and projects that expose them to areas different than their usual job.  Participants also participate in field experiences to observe and engage in dialogue with position leaders at work.

A small cohort of participants is selected each year through an application process. Participants completing their second year in the cohort include Tammy Beener, Katy Lee, Tracy Liebermann, David Maiers and Jill Ries. This year Mary Crandall, Barb Hunt, Mark Hartung and Kay Schieffer began their first year of leadership development.

Grant Wood AEA employees desiring to apply for this program must complete an application and send it, along with other requested documents, to Dr. Ron Fielder, Chief Administrator, by March 11, 2011.  Applications for the Organizational Leadership Program can be found on the GWAEA website at the following address: http://www.aea10.k12.ia.us/leadership/ldrshipdev.html

If you have any questions or need further information, please contact Lisa Fry at lfry@aea10.k12.ia.us
