Grant Wood AEA Chief Administrator Search Process Timeline

The Grant Wood AEA Board of Directors met on Tuesday, March 15, 2011 and adopted a Leadership Profile for the Chief Administrator position.  
 
This week each member of the five focus groups was invited to submit 3 - 5 questions they would like to ask of the selected candidates.  The search firm consultants will review and summarize the list of questions.
 
April 21 - the Grant Wood AEA Board of Directors will meet with the search consultants in a closed session to review applications and select the semi-finalists.
 
April 25 - the search consultants will meet with each focus group.
 
April 26 – the Grant Wood AEA Board of Directors will interview the semi-finalists and select the finalists.
 
April 28 and April 29 - the focus groups and the Grant Wood AEA Board of Directors will interview the finalists.
 
April 30 – Grant Wood AEA board meeting to select finalist


Jane Yock is not retiring, but…

Jane Yock, executive assistant, will begin her new adventures away from Grant Wood AEA at the end of this month. Jane does not want a big reception and does not like to use the “R” word, so we’ve decided to have treats in the administrative area on Monday, March 28th at around 10 a.m. or anytime throughout the day. Please join us as we celebrate with Jane on her new adventures.

Spouses, Friends and Retired Staff:
$27 per person

Reservations: Due April 8, 2011.
Groups may reserve a table for themselves. Please submit all reservations to Cathy Nelson at the Sixth Street Office, ext. 6544.

All employees with 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, or 35 years of employment with Grant Wood AEA, retirees, and persons nominated and selected by agency staff will be honored.

Camp Invention planned June 20-24

Camp Invention is for students who will be completing grades K-5 this year. The camp is sponsored by the
Grant Wood AEA Van Allen Science Teaching Center (VAST)
in partnership with the Corridor STEM Initiative.

Grant Wood AEA staff will receive a discount  for up to two students to attend the camp.

Camp Invention will be held at College Community's Prairie Ridge Elementary from June 20-24. Details are on the registration form. For additional information, contact Camp Invention Director Nannette Gunn, GWAEA teacher-in-residence, ext. 6471.


Health Screen Blood Profile planned during April

Grant Wood AEA will be facilitating a Health Screen Blood Profile in April.  The cost of the blood profile is $19 – the same as last year.  Spouses of employees may also participate at this cost.  Please bring a check made out to Grant Wood AEA that morning.

You do not need an appointment; just leave your name, by phone or e-mail, with the location secretary listed below. 

Please let Barb or Nancy know by March 28th if you plan to participate.

PEP Parents as Presenters Workshop

The Grant Wood AEA PEP Program offers the Parents as Presenters Workshop as a way that parents can share their experiences and continue to create understanding. Once completing the workshop, participants who are willing are invited to speak on parent panels for AEA trainings and college classes.

The first session of the two-part Parents as Presenters Workshop is planned on Saturday, May 7, 2011, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Grant Wood AEA, 4401 Sixth St. SW, in Cedar Rapids. Only the first session is scheduled; at that time participants will determine when the additional day will be held.

Congratulations to Diane Egly, library associate, and her family with the birth of her new granddaughter,
Mia Emaleigh Egly. Mia was born on March 22 at 8:02 p.m., 9 1/2 lbs. and 21 inches.


Literacy Intervention Fair, June 7

Course: 19008-10-01
Registration deadline: May 25, 2011

This workshop is designed to provide participants the chance to view and interact with reading intervention materials for struggling readers. Publishing companies
will each have a booth to display their materials. They will also each provide a 30-45 minute presentation highlighting the target for the interventions, how data is gathered and monitored, and research based results.

Free to good home

Male cat, 2 1/2 years old, goes by the name of Tom. His colors are white and light orange. He is up to date on all shots, declawed (front), and is neutered. He is very friendly and loving. Seems to get along with other cats as well. Owner moved and we are providing a temporary foster home for him. Indoor cat only.
