East Conference Center hallway door to be locked beginning March 26

Beginning today, Friday, March 26, 2010 another addition to our efforts to make the building safer and more secure for our staff and visitors will be implemented. The doorway that separates the Conference Center from the rest of the building on the east end (near the Conference Center restrooms and tech support/back stairway) will be locked 24/7. Staff may access this door at any time using their Agency assigned access card.During business hours (7:30-4:30) staff may use the double doors from the Reception area to gain access to the building by simply displaying their Grant Wood ID badge.

Suggestions for making this transition smooth for you:

  • If you frequently utilize the doorway between the Conference Center and the area near tech support you may want to attach your access card behind your photo ID on your lanyard or clip. This will ensure that it is always with you and available for quick and easy use.

  • If you have an access card that does not have a pre-punched hole in it, take it to Eric or Lisa in the Creative Services Graphics department to punch a hole in it for you. This takes only a few moments.

  • If you frequently access this doorway and do not have an access card, please contact Mike Kiely and request a card. mkiely@gwaea.org

Severe Weather Preparations at GWAEA
Tornado Drill planned Wednesday, April 7, at 10 a.m.

On Wednesday, April 7, at 10 a.m., the agency will have a tornado drill to prepare staff for possible severe weather situations we might have this spring.

The agency no longer uses the fire alarms to alert staff of tornados. Instead, you will hear an announcement over the speakers in the new the phone system throughout the building.

During a drill or during an actual tornado alert, when you hear we are under Tornado warning, please follow these steps:

  • Go immediately to the designated SAFE area closest to you.  See maps posted throughout the building and become familiar with the route suggested.

  • Do NOT go outside or try to call home.

  • Once you are in a SAFE area remain there until notified that the warning has been removed or has expired.

  • Secretaries should take their flashlights with them.

Remember:
ATornado Watch means conditions are favorable for a tornado to form.
A Tornado Warning means a tornado has been sighted in the area. We will alert staff in the building only when a Warning has been issued.
