Water at Sixth St. Facility to be turned off on Monday, April 4

Due to work being done on the water main on Monday, April 4, water at the Sixth St. Facility will be shut off between 10:30-11:00 a.m. for two hours.

Signs to not use the water after 10:30 a.m. on April 4 are posted on the restroom doors, sinks and water fountains. The signs will be removed when the water is turned back on and cleared for use.

Stumberg Selected as Keystone AEA’s New Chief Administrator

Keystone Area Education Agency (Keystone AEA) is pleased to announce that Gary Stumberg, currently Keystone AEA’s Director of Administrative Services, has been selected as the new Chief Administrator. Gary will succeed Dr. Robert Vittengl, who is retiring and has been Keystone’s Chief Administrator since 2001.

Prior to being hired at Keystone AEA, Stumberg held positions as Superintendent of Starmont Community School District; Superintendent at Garnavillo and MarMac Community School Districts; Principal at Garnavillo Schools as well as teaching positions at C-W-L and Dows Community Schools. 


Camp Invention planned June 20-24

Camp Invention is for students who will be completing grades K-5 this year. The camp is sponsored by the
Grant Wood AEA Van Allen Science Teaching Center (VAST)
in partnership with the Corridor STEM Initiative.

Grant Wood AEA staff will receive a discount  for up to two students to attend the camp.

Camp Invention will be held at College Community's Prairie Ridge Elementary from June 20-24. Details are on the registration form. For additional information, contact Camp Invention Director Nannette Gunn, GWAEA teacher-in-residence, ext. 6471.

The Health Screen Blood Profile will be held April 5 and 7 per the following schedule:

The cost of the blood profile is $19 – the same as last year.  Spouses of employees may also participate at this cost. Please bring a check made out to Grant Wood AEA that morning for the amount.

Be sure to fast at least 12 hours before the test.  A light snack will be available after the blood draw.

PEP Parents as Presenters Workshop

The Grant Wood AEA PEP Program offers the Parents as Presenters Workshop as a way that parents can share their experiences and continue to create understanding. Once completing the workshop, participants who are willing are invited to speak on parent panels for AEA trainings and college classes.

The first session of the two-part Parents as Presenters Workshop is planned on Saturday, May 7, 2011, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Grant Wood AEA, 4401 Sixth St. SW, in Cedar Rapids. Only the first session is scheduled; at that time participants will determine when the additional day will be held.

Literacy Intervention Fair, June 7

This workshop is designed to provide participants the chance to view and interact with reading intervention materials for struggling readers. Publishing companies
will each have a booth to display their materials. They will also each provide a 30-45 minute presentation highlighting the target for the interventions, how data is gathered and monitored, and research based results.
