Recognition for Grant Wood AEA Staff

Following the June 22
Grant Wood AEA Board meeting, Ron Fielder and Joe Crozier met briefly to officially commemorate the
change-over of the agency's Chief Administrator position.

Joe officially begins as the agency's Chief Administrator today.

Glenn Pelecky and Wayne Haddy

At the June AEA Chiefs meeting, Glenn Pelecky, chief administrator at Mississippi Bend AEA, recognized Wayne
Haddy (left) for his many years of service to the AEA system as the AEAs' chief lobbyist.

Wayne retired from this role as of yesterday. All of the Chiefs thanked Wayne for the work he has done in behalf of the AEAs, helping legislators craft appropriate legislation and working tirelessly to help
legislators understand exactly what the AEA does and why it is such a valuable service for all of the schools we serve.

Share Your Feedback - New Agency Website

Work continues on revisions to the agency's test website prior to the launch planned in August.

A website committee has been meeting during the last year to design and develop the new site, including Stacy Behmer, Dave Brousard, Andy Crozier, Eric Cleveland, George Held, Valerie Taylor Hill, Trace Pickering, and Lisa Twedt.

A draft of the new test website is available at

Please share your feedback regarding the site as part of this Zoomerang survey.

As the work continues, some of the navigational links will take you to the current site design. As pages are updated during July, the new pages will be added to the current website. Text is also being confirmed and modified as well.

To the extent possible, the current website bookmarks will remain the same. The new site will feature condensed menu items on the home page as well as an enhanced Search feature. The current Google Translate feature will also be included allowing the text to display in different languages.

Many areas within the agency have created and are using Google Sites for internal documents that previously were contained in the Grant Wood AEA Staff Information Portal. Just a reminder that as part of the new website, the information that currently appears in the Region, Team, School Improvement, and General Information Portals will be removed as of Aug. 1. If information in the current Portal needs to remain, please contact Valerie Taylor Hill, ext. 6824.

New Online Staff Photo Directory Planned

A new online staff directory is planned with the launch of the new agency website that will incorporate staff ID badge photos. Staff can decline having their photo included as part of the directory by contacting George Held, ext. 6714 or

Lodging Policy Reminder

This is a reminder concerning the agency’s lodging policy for travel in the Des Moines and Ames areas. Our agreements with Heart of America Hotels in Des Moines and Americinn in Ames have been in place for two years now and have been successful in reducing our travel costs.  To continue to control travel costs, employees are to stay at one of the designated hotels in Des Moines or Ames when overnight for Agency business travel, whether agency-directed or professional leave (employees will not be eligible for lodging reimbursement at another unauthorized hotel, except under extenuating circumstances that would require prior approval from an executive administrator).

Please review the attached information regarding the list of designated hotels and business procedures for lodging reservations and payment.  If there are questions, please contact Amy Cameron at X6707 or Barb Harms at X6704.

GWAEA Team - Especially for You® Race Against Breast Cancer

The 21st annual Especially for You® Race Against Breast Cancer will be held on Sunday, October 2, 2011. The race begins at 8:00 a.m.  This event, co-founded by Mercy Medical Center and General Mills, is held each year to help increase awareness regarding the importance of early detection and screening for breast cancer. ALL PROCEEDS from the race are used locally to provide breast cancer screening and other support services for individuals in need.
This year we will recruit a Grant Wood Area Education Agency team. Each participant will pay for their registration fee.  Registering as part of the GWAEA team does not mean you have to walk together as a group.  If the GWAEA team has at least 15 registrations we can add a GWAEA logo to the back of the t-shirt and your individual race packet will be available for pick-up at GWAEA.
This year’s race includes a 5K run for females and males, a 5K walk for females and males, or a 1-mile Family Fun Walk. Registration fee is $25 by August 31, $30 from September 1 - October 1, and $35 on the day of the race. Youth registration (15 years and younger) is always $20.
Additional information regarding registration will be included in the next issue of the Bulletin Board.  If you plan on registering as part of the GWAEA team, we will need to complete the registration forms and receive the registration fee prior to August 28.  If you are interested in registering with the GWAEA team, please contact Kim Martin,
Stacy Murphy, Karen Desmarais, or Elizabeth Steffensmeier
