Media Center launches Rotating Reads

Staff in the Grant Wood AEA Media Center launched the new Rotating Reads program this week.

The program supports reading and supplements school library resources by providing sets of books for individual classrooms on a rotating basis every four weeks.

Rotating Reads

Teachers in first and second grade received the invitation to sign up for the program last spring. A total of 84 first-grade teachers and 117 second-grade teachers are participating.

On Monday, Sept. 13, the Media Center began distribution of 239 Rotating Reads sets, or 5,975 books.

Each Rotating Reads set contains both informational text and fiction books. The books were selected by Melva Starr, GWAEA media specialist. Materials for sets are based on reading and interest levels. Each set contains 25 different titles.

Rotating ReadsDistribution of the Rotating Reads Program began on Sept. 13.

Approximately 700 different titles were selected for the program. To be selected, a book needed to have two reviews as well as a durable binding.

Rotating Reads is modeled after similar programs at Keystone and Heartland AEAs.

For questions about Rotating Reads, contact Hope Runge, Team Leader: Media, ext. 6435.

Will You Participate in GWAEA Flu Shots This Year?

It’s time to be thinking about flu shots again.  This year, pharmacies are receiving combined vaccinations against seasonal flu and H1N1. Our cost for flu vaccinations will be $28.95 if we have at least 126 participants. If we fall below that level of participation, our cost will be $29.95.  (Last year we had 170 participants.)
We know that it is convenient for many of you to receive your vaccinations here and then continue on with your day.  In order to determine if we should proceed with the flu shot program, I need to know how many of you would be willing to participate at the current cost.  We need to know by September 24th. If we have enough participants, we will select dates and sign a contract with the pharmacy.
Please click on the link below to answer a one-question Zoomerang survey to indicate if you plan to participate in the flu shot program at Grant Wood AEA this year.
