This session will present a model of small group instruction to address skills development. Participants will see the rationale for four types of groups based on assessment data, consider use of time in small groups, and see model lessons. The model is based on Walpole and McKenna's How to Plan Differentiate Instruction.

Language Profiles of High-Functioning Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders
In this workshop, profiles of language and other cognitive abilities among high-functioning children with autism spectrum disorders will be presented. Two sub-types commonly reported in the research literature will be discussed. Strategies for language intervention with a particular focus on the use of visual supports will be suggested.

Building Bridges: Eastern Iowa Assistive Technology Conference
The "Building Bridges" Eastern Iowa Assistive Technology Expo will provide an opportunity to see first hand the latest in assistive technologies(AT), practices, and services for students with disabilities. This AT conference will serve as a unique opportunity for vendors, professionals, parents, and service providers to exchange and gather information on the current status and tools available for consideration. The sessions presented at the "Building Bridges": Eastern Iowa Assistive Technology Expo are divided into four main tracks which include: General Trends & Tools for AT; AT Supports for High-Incidence Disabilities (LD, reading/writing disabilities); AT Supports for Lo-Incidence Disabilities (moderate/severe communication and/or cognitive disabilities); General Web-based AT Resources. A vendor area of current AT resources and catalogs will also be available. Participants are encouraged to attend a single track or a wide variety of tracks depending on your conference objectives.

Beacons of Best Practice: Sound Articulation Treatment
This session presents an innovative approach for addressing the needs of children with mild articulation disorders in public school settings. seven years of project data from San Diego Unified illustrate the efficacy of this short-term, intensive general education approach, which strives to remediate sound production in 20 hours or less.
