Please Contact Your Legislators!

We are into the final weeks of the legislative session. The legislators are honing the final details of bills and budgets. Financing for the AEA  will be a brief part of their discussion in the last few weeks. Please don't let it be a write-off on their part. Write to your state legislator about the Governor's proposed budget cut to the AEAs. Don't know who your legislators are? Contact the Communications Office - George or Val will gladly look this up for you!  The importance of telling legislators that such a cut is unnecessary is vitally important. Help them understand how important your work is, and we'll hope that will affect how they vote when this item comes up for consideration.

How to Find the  Current Assignment Directory

At the Agency Advisory Council, we were asked to share how staff can find who is assigned to specific districts/buildings. The directory we have is a Word document that is updated annually. We hope to change that soon to a database driven system. In the meantime, here is how to get to the directory on our agency Website:

Parent/Student Transition Night held April 9

Members of the GWAEA Transition Cadre facilitated the Parent/Student Transition Night,
April 9 at Grant Wood AEA. The event provided parents and students information about independent living, life after high school, college requirements and available assistance.

Joe Crozier, GWAEA chief administrator, welcomed parents and students to the evening's activities.

The keynote speaker was Kent Stock, a teacher, coach, middle school principal, and coach of the Norway baseball team during their now-famous final season depicted in the 2007 film, The Final Season.

Kent wrote a book titled, “Heading for Home: My Journey from Little League to Hollywood” outlining his life’s journey and the stories of filming a movie. Today, Kent is Vice-President/Business Development at Community Savings Bank in Cedar Rapids.

The event offered 20 different break-out sessions with information about living, learning and working in the area. Presenters included employers, representatives from support services and college admissions officers, and 17 different booths featuring additional information.

For many years the agency's "pop fund" supported the entire cost of the banquet. Now, with no more pop money being applied to the fund, we have limited resources for the banquet. Thus, the agency's Advisory Committee agreed that a cost of $10 per staff person  would be reasonable for a nice dinner.
