Update to GSA meal rates in Claims System

Recently, the Board of Directors approved a change in the travel reimbursement policy to increase meal reimbursement rates to the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) per diem rates for FY13.  This is effective for all travel after July 1, 2013. We were previously using the GSA rates for FY09.  The table called GSA quick reference has been updated in the Reimbursement Claims System.

Please note that the full day rate for Des Moines has increased from $44 to $51, with the increases being in the dinner and snack rates.  Rates for other cities have also increased.
Please carefully review meal reimbursement requests that have been entered for July 2013 travel as amounts may need to be adjusted.
Please contact Michelle Bendickson at ext. 6707  if there are any questions.

Welcome, New GWAEA Staff

Another Opportunity to Show Your Support

I am beginning a fundraiser for the 2013 Iowa SIDS Foundation Walk for the Future-Run to Remember event on August 24 to additionally support Annette Renaud in memory of her son, Zachary.

The Iowa SIDS Foundation will be hosting the 14th Annual WALK FOR THE FUTURE-RUN TO REMEMBER.  This year's walk will be held in eight cities on Saturday, August 24, 2013.  She will be walking 1 ½ miles in Grinnell. Annette works for the SEMS department presently and was the secretary in the CEC until it closed.

To raise funds I am selling a pink and blue ribbon pin. Each one is a 1 inch by ½ inch sterling silver plated with pink & blue. They will be priced at anywhere from $5 to $10, whatever works for you. If you’re able and would like to pay more you are welcome to do so. All profits will go to Annette’s donation to this cause.
If you would like to offer your support, please contact me, Cathy Nelson, 319-399-6544 or at the Sixth St. front desk. Thanks for your support.

Thank you

Thank you so much to everyone who contributed to my recent benefit.  I can not express enough how much your support means to me and my family. I am currently in the process of completing a stem cell transplant.  All is going well so far.  I look forward to seeing you all back at work later this fall. Have a great summer.

Need to Restock Your Office Space?

A variety of used office supplies will be available in the Benton Room (2nd floor of the Sixth Street office) on August 12-15.

These are items that others have decided they no longer need, but they might fit other individuals’ needs perfectly!

Rather than throw them away or into a recycle bin, we thought it would be a better idea to have these items available for staff to take a look and see if there aren’t some used office supplies they need. Come see for yourself in mid-August. Any items left over will be recycled on Friday, August 16, 2013.

Please take five minutes to complete a short survey to provide information on apps, usage and future professional development planning. The survey can be found on our GWAEA iPad site. You must be logged into your GWAEA Google Account to complete the survey.

RTI is a way of thinking about how educators can ensure each child receives the time and support needed to achieve success. For RTI to be effective, work must be shared among collaborative teacher teams and schoolwide teams. Together, the entire school assumes responsibility for the learning of every student. This workshop will help AEA staff understand RTI and how they can support schools in this process.

See flyer for details.
