Iowa IDEA 2013 IS HERE

On July 1, 2013, Iowa IDEA system (Web IEP 2013) was released across the state of Iowa.  The new Iowa IDEA system allows one login for multiple applications: IEP, IFSP, and IMS.  In addition, a slightly modified version of the IFSP application and the rewritten IMS application will be released.  The content of the IEP and the appearance of the printed IEP pages will not change, with the exception of the F Page which will have some changes. Also, all forms and documents for Child Find are now part of the Iowa IDEA.

The web login is and the link continues to be the GWAEA Special Education Forms webpage.  Staff will use the same username and password as in the previous system, however everyone will be prompted to change their password to a more secure password the first time in the new system. Staff must change their password by Sept 9, 2013.

GWAEA lead teams will be providing training to AEA region staff and LEA staff during the fall of 2013.  GWAEA Regional Administrators will be working with district administrators to establish training dates for each district/building.

There are several great resources available online from the state to learn more about Iowa IDEA/Web IEP 2013 and the Child Find component of the new system.  The information can be found at  under the tab “New Iowa IDEA - 2013 Release and Beyond.” Also, the videos created to support Iowa IDEA/Web IEP 2013 and Child Find are located on EduVision at

Another Opportunity to Show Your Support

I am beginning a fundraiser for the 2013 Iowa SIDS Foundation Walk for the Future-Run to Remember event on August 24 to additionally support Annette Renaud in memory of her son, Zachary.

The Iowa SIDS Foundation will be hosting the 14th Annual WALK FOR THE FUTURE-RUN TO REMEMBER.  This year's walk will be held in eight cities on Saturday, August 24, 2013.  She will be walking 1 ½ miles in Grinnell. Annette works for the SEMS department presently and was the secretary in the CEC until it closed.

To raise funds I am selling a pink and blue ribbon pin. Each one is a 1 inch by ½ inch sterling silver plated with pink & blue. They will be priced at anywhere from $5 to $10, whatever works for you. If you’re able and would like to pay more you are welcome to do so. All profits will go to Annette’s donation to this cause.
If you would like to offer your support, please contact me, Cathy Nelson, 319-399-6544 or at the Sixth St. front desk. Thanks for your support.

RTI is a way of thinking about how educators can ensure each child receives the time and support needed to achieve success. For RTI to be effective, work must be shared among collaborative teacher teams and schoolwide teams. Together, the entire school assumes responsibility for the learning of every student. This workshop will help AEA staff understand RTI and how they can support schools in this process.
