GWAEA Guidance on Staff Work Attire

Grant Wood AEA is proud of our familiar, comfortable culture and understands that many of our staff work in very different settings.  While we want our employees to work comfortably in our workplace, we still need our staff to project a professional image for our districts, educational partners, potential employees, and while working in the community.

"We know that individual work activities at our agency vary widely, so we're hoping this guidance can help outline what is considered appropriate for agency staff attire," said Chief Administrator Joe Crozier.  "We do recognize that there are occasions when staff will need to wear jeans, support spirit day or otherwise dress casually.  What we would like is for casual dress like this to be the exception and not the norm."

Business casual dress is the general standard for working at our agency, which gives staff the flexibility to dress according to his or her schedule for the day, and in a manner that promotes a tasteful, respectful impression of our agency.  On days when staff need to dress more casually due to their work activities, employees must exert a certain amount of judgment in their choice of clothing.  In particular, staff are reminded that not all casual clothing is suitable for the office. As a general guideline, clothing that works well for the beach, yard work, dance clubs or exercising may not be appropriate for a professional appearance at work.

If you are unsure about what clothing is acceptable while you're at work, please ask your supervisor for additional guidance. This topic will be addressed further during region and discipline meetings over the next month.

$1,500 Early Notification Incentive for Contracted, Management Staff Approved by GWAEA Board

Last night our GWAEA Board of Directors approved a proposal designed to help the agency with its hiring process.

With our Board's approval, contracted and management staff will receive an additional financial incentive for providing the agency with early notification of their pending resignation or retirement.  Specifically, Contracted or Management staff would need to commit to resigning or retiring, in writing, to Human Resources between December 10, 2014 and January 30, 2015.  If this retirement or resignation is accepted by the Board at its regular meeting on February 11, 2015, the staff member would receive an incentive  of $1,500, which would be payable to them on June 19 (assuming the staff member satisfactorily completed his or her contract obligations for the year).

"Early notification of planned resignations or retirements can help the Agency recruit potential candidates and complete the selection process in a timely manner," said Human Resources Coordinator Jackie Schreder.

Staff should note that this incentive is available for Contracted and Management staff,  and does not apply to other employee groups. This determination was made because the contractual nature of these positions provides a small window of opportunity for hiring staff in these two employee groups, and therefore the application pool and availability of candidates for these positions can be significantly affected depending on the timing of our posting of the positions. Because we are continually hiring for our salaried and hourly employee groups throughout the year, an incentive for these groups would be less effective as a tool to promote a quality application pool.

In summary:

  • The GWAEA Board of Directors has approved a $1,500 early notification incentive for Contracted and Management staff who provide early notification of their retirement or resignation.

  • This incentive is available for Contracted and Management staff.

  • Staff who are eligible for this incentive and who intend to resign or retire at the end of the 2014-2015 work year must notify HR in writing before 4:30 p.m. on January 30, 2015 (email notice is acceptable).

Staff with questions about the incentive are encouraged to speak with their supervisor or the HR office.

Reminder to Contracted Staff Approved to Work Added Days this School Year

Contracted staff are reminded to submit added days time cards on a weekly basis as the work is performed.  If added days have been approved and worked during the current school year, it is important you are up-to-date in submitting these time cards.

This ensures timely payment for the work completed and also allows supervisors to have more accurate and current financial data for budgeting purposes.

Help for setting up audio for Zoom video conferencing meetings

Do you need a reference tool for setting up audio meetings using Zoom?  Check out this Google doc from GWAEA Technology Support Program Lead Heath Ayers. The information includes testing settings prior to joining the meeting, and what option to select when joining the meeting.

Grant Wood AEA Media Center Update

The GWAEA Media Center continues to create efficiencies through a physical realignment of the collections areas.

The goals of the move are to locate browsing collections closer to the front entry, build areas for collaboration, and to integrate the technology consultants into a new work area.

The PEP Library was recently integrated into the Media Center and is located near the Learning Commons area.

Multiple changes are planned during the next year. If a collection is not where it normally was, please ask a member of the Media Center staff for assistance.

33rd Ave Renovation Update

Construction work continues on the former atrium entry (right) and the new entry (left).

Preparations are underway for removing the wall separating the VAST Center.

Portions of the VAST shelving units were moved this week in preparation for removal of the wall.

Hello and season’s greetings to everyone. Guess what?  Yep, it’s that time of year again. While you are gone enjoying your time off for the holidays, the Marsden elves will be hard at work keeping things tidy.  That means clean carpets in the conference center and some hard hit areas around the building, and our bi-annual refrigerator clean out and sanitizing.

If you want to save condiments, salad dressings, etc., please take them home on or before Dec. 24 otherwise they will be tossed out.  You can bring them back on Jan. 2 when you return from your holiday vacation.
