The Learning Continues: 2015 Organizational Leadership Cohort Share Their Culminating Projects


The 2015 Organizational Leadership cohort celebrated graduation on May 7, 2015.

One aspect of the agency's Organizational Leadership Program is the selection and development of an individual culminating project. The goal of the culminating experience is to broaden the participant’s experiences through involvement and/or internships in the organization and larger community.  Projects may include opportunities to positively influence decisions on policy, community relations, setting organizational direction, project management (planning, implementing, and monitoring), etc.


The members of the 2015 Organizational Leadership cohort presented their culminating learning projects during graduation held on May 7. Cohort members are continuing their learning through their individual culminating projects. Read more about these ongoing projects below.

Kathleen Goslinga, Media Assistant

Project: Introduce and integrate the AEA Online Resources with Pre-Service Teachers


Kathleen will continue to work with the pre-service teachers at The University of Iowa  and Mount Mercy College to increase their awareness and build capacity within lesson plans and units of study as they prepare for student teaching experiences. During the coming year she hopes to begin work with Cornell, Coe and Kirkwood Community College.

Project: Continued support for the agency's GROW Committee and Blue Zones Worksite™ designation


Val will continue to provide communications planning support as a member of the agency’s Grant Wood AEA Renewing our Well-being (GROW) Committee through The Bulletin Board, posting of the “Lunch and Learn” videos, and other communication efforts in support of the committee’s work.


Patrick Lussenhop, School Psychologist


Project: Work as part of the math team focused on math screening tools and creating progress monitoring materials to go along with the screeners.


Patrick will continue to work with the math team on developing probes that are tied to a variety of math screeners which will give school teams diagnostic and progress monitoring information on a variety of math concepts. Patrick will continue working with the team as they develop professional development opportunities to provide the information to GWAEA and building staff moving forward.

Angie Miller, School Psychologist

Project: Help to develop a clear process for the reevaluations of special education students


Angie will continue to work with AEA staff to develop a clear and consistent process to use when reevaluated special education students (similar to the clear and consistent process in place for identifying student for special education services - Child Find). Angie hopes to develop tools, learning modules, increase comfort with coach/collaboration in this area and/or PD opportunities to build staff knowledge and comfort in this area. In addition, she hopes to provide support to new staff members in how to navigate this process.

Wanted: Feedback on Agency Banquet

We'd like your feedback! Each year the agency coordinates the staff recognition and partnership awards banquet, and we'd like feedback from staff who attended as well as those who chose not to attend this year's event.

Connect is a summer program for middle and high school students coordinated by Grant Wood AEA. 

The intent of this program is to connect youth to the community around them through a hands-on, experiential learning approach.

The May 2015 issue of School Leader Update shares information about the state's Early ACCESS program in the article, "Turning the teaching tables: Program focuses on teaching parents to be educators."

Summer Meals Volunteers Needed

Now's The Time!

It’s time for a little spring cleaning! Our agency is preparing for a refresh, and we have drafted guidelines to aid staff with this process. Staff should reference these tools to ensure consistency with what we discard/recycle, and how to organize our materials going forward.


Timeline for Cleaning

May - Continue to purge excess files and materials. Coralville office continues to pack.

June - June 12th is the last day of packing for Coralville staff. Coralville office furniture will move in/set up through the week of June 22nd - June 30th.


Any loose or boxed items that are unmarked and stacked or stowed in any location other than inside a filing or storage cabinet in each Agency facility after June 15th will be removed from the facility and discarded.

iPad Feedback Needed

We would still like some feedback as we plan for the future. Please take five minutes to complete a short survey to provide information on apps, usage and future professional development planning. The survey can be found on our GWAEA iPad site. You must be logged into your GWAEA Google Account to complete the survey.


Departing Staff Technology Turn In

As you prepare to leave the agency, equipment needs to be turned into different people throughout the agency. Please click on this link and make a copy of this doc (you will need to login with your agency email) to see what needs to be turned in and to whom. Items needing to be turned in may include: computer, iPad, keys, ID, etc. Please print a hard copy if you would like to check off what has been turned in. Evaluator Approval Information

Professional Administrator Licenses require approved Evaluator Approval coursework as a part of the licenses renewal credits.  The course options include Assessing Academic Rigor and iEvaluate.A letter from the DE/BOEE is attached for additional information.
