topworkplaces

Survey Says: GWAEA is a Top Iowa Workplace!

Did you hear the news?  Last year Grant Wood AEA employees were asked to complete a short 22-question survey about working at the agency.  This week the agency was notified that feedback from our staff ranked GWAEA as one of Iowa's Top Workplaces for 2014!

The Top Workplaces evaluation is based purely on the results of feedback from staff, and compared with a national ranking system.

"We have worked hard to cultivate a healthy  environment where every staff member feels valued and supported, and we're proud to see those attributes resonate through this survey," said Chief Administrator Joe Crozier.  "I've often said that everything that works is because of the relationships we have, and our relationships internally are some of those that are most important.  Thank you to all the staff who participated in the survey, and thank you for making Grant Wood AEA a great place to work!"

Construction May Start Monday on 33rd Ave Renovation

Work continues to move ahead on the first floor renovation of the 33rd Ave. facility.  There are two key pieces of information we want to share related to this project:

1. Thank you to those on the main level who have shifted their workspaces to the front of the building. Construction on the interior of the building is scheduled to begin Monday, Oct. 6 so everyone needs to have their temporary move completed in advance of this work.  (You also may have noticed some walls were removed on the first level already: this was done at our request to help accommodate the VAST team's move.)

2. At this time we expect that work to improve the parking lot and concrete at the front of the building will begin next week. Staff at the 33rd Ave. location may be directed to park in alternate areas during this time. We'll communicate with the staff directly as details emerge.

Watch for additional information and for photo updates as we share our exciting improvements with the rest of our staff through The Bulletin Board.

unitedway

United Way Campaign

GWAEA United Way Campaign October 20-31

Making a contribution to the United Way is a tremendous way to make a substantial impact in the lives of others and in our community. Many United Way agencies partner with the Grant Wood AEA to provide programs and services to our community, and they rely on charitable giving to sustain their missions.

Grant Wood AEA will hold an agency-wide United Way campaign October 20-31. Our agency goal is to increase our overall giving: and this year, donors have a unique opportunity to make an even bigger impact with their contribution. First time givers will receive a dollar for dollar match, and every donor who increases their gift also will have their gifts matched at the same ratio.

Watch for more information on how you can donate in future editions of The Bulletin Board!

Holiday Early Release Dates

The three occasions where the Agency will close at 3 p.m. include:

  1. Wednesday before Thanksgiving (11/26/14)

  2. Christmas Eve (12/24/14)

  3. Good Friday (4/3/15)

UPDATES in the Child Find Module of the Iowa IDEA/WebIEP

Effective October 1, 2014 two new features of the Child Find module of the WebIEP will be available.

Feature 1: An email will be sent to the first electronic participant with all open evaluations. Each Monday after October 1st, an email will be generated for all open Child Find records and will include the remaining days for the 60 day timeline. It will be important for the first electronic participant to communicate the messages to other electronic participants for each open Child Find.

Feature 2: An email will be sent to the first electronic participant regarding the timeline for the Child Find module regarding when the record will be closed/deleted (fall off the Child Find list). The first electronic participant will be notified of the action steps that must be completed to ensure that record will not drop off the student list. (Please note: the number of days that a record 'automatically' is closed or deleted by the system will change from 30 days to 45 days.)

We hope these two features will enhance your use of the Child Find WebIEP module. Thanks! State Child Find Leadership Team

Please contact Melissa Tandy (mtandy@gwaea.org), Austin Beer (abeer@gwaeal.org) or Hillary Prall (hprall@gwaea.org) with questions.

Sharing Information About Education

GWAEA Chief Administrator Joe Crozier and a delegation from Iowa met last week in Washington, D.C. with Rep. Dave Loebsack and Sen. Chuck Grassley to discuss education.

Know the Lingo

GWAEA prepares a list of legislative priorities each year that summarize key issues the agency wants to legislate or discuss with lawmakers. This week's GWAEA Lingo highlights three terms that staff might hear throughout the legislative session:

8. Iowa Core - The Iowa Core is a set of standards that gives Iowa students, parents, and teachers a clear, common understanding of what students need to learn at every grade level. Each Iowa school district decides what curriculum to use to deliver the Iowa Core, and Iowa teachers design and develop the lessons used in their classrooms. The Iowa Department of Education has a $2 million state appropriation for fiscal year 2014 to support the work of Iowa Core implementation. Most of the funding is sent directly to the Area Education Agencies to provide direct support to schools.

9. Supplemental State Aid - Supplemental State Aid is the newer term that replaces Allowable Growth, the formula that is used to calculate most of the funding for Iowa schools and AEAs. School boards and AEAs are calling on the legislature to set a supplemental state aid at a rate that encourages continuous educational improvement and reflects he actual cost increases experienced by school districts and AEAs.

10. Teacher Leadership Systems - Cedar Rapids, Linn-Mar and Benton Community school districts are among the 39 statewide recipients of Teacher Leadership System funds that were granted from the Department of Education to improve instruction in Iowa schools. The grant dollars can be used for creating teacher leadership positions and opportunities, improving existing teacher leadership systems, professional development.

Have you ever seen this message on your iPad?

“This iPad Cannot be Backed Up Because There is Not Enough iCloud Storage Available. You Can Manage Storage in Your Settings.”

Well, you are not alone. Jonathan has been talking to a lot of people about this recently, so decided to put together a quick guide to help solve this very problem. Read more here.

Agency iPad Apps

Agency apps have been purchased and are being pushed to Apple IDs (the one you authorized in the Meraki Step 2 set up). If the apps don’t automatically appear on your device you will need to go to the app store and either search for the app and download it or go to PURCHASED and find it there to download it. There should be a cloud icon by the app showing it has been purchased for you. Also, if you don’t see it, check the iPhone/iPod apps because a couple are for those devices, but can be used on the iPad.
