Grant Wood AEA Mission: To ensure success for all learners.

Grant Wood AEA goals

All Agency Inservice Brings Together Staff for
New Academic Year

Grant Wood AEA logo

While many staff support the mission of the agency year round, all staff came together to kick off the start of the new academic year with Wednesday's All Agency meeting.

This year's meeting centered around the mission of the agency, Ensuring Success for All Learners. Agency leadership also shared successes from the past year including:

John Speer
  • We currently have the highest FTE in the history of the agency (526 staff and 492.94 FTE).

  • Last year we certified 652 AEA and LEA staff members in Crisis Prevention Institute
    (CPI strategies)

  • All 369 staff members required to complete the online training for eligibility standards have submitted their certificates of completion.

  • Our Digital Learning team has had more than 26,000 downloads of Ed Tech Takeout podcasts!

  • The VAST kit materials are used by 60,000 students and we had close to 6,000 orders for science units in the 2017-18 school year.

  • We highlighted the collaboration by our Special Ed. Consultants, School Psychologists and School Social Workers during Common Learning sessions. Some areas of focus last year included consistency of practice in child find, facilitation skills, implementation fidelity and evidence-based practices to address students’ needs in literacy and social/emotional/behavior/mental health.

  • An increased focus on community outreach. This summer we launched a partnership this summer with the Cedar Rapids Kernels and their summer literacy program, throughout the year we included regular articles on Early Access and in local magazines like City Revealed and Corridor Family Magazine, and this fall we’ll launch a new blog with tips for parents called The Carpool Lane.

  • Our programmers provided updates to improve our Claims and Reimbursement system

  • Grant Wood AEA provided over 600 different professional learning activities with over 14,000 registrations in 2017-18. Continually our PD and scope of national speakers is appreciated by our districts.

Links to the videos shared by John Speer during his presentation include $100 Race and
Simon Sinek—Help Yourself by Helping Others
.

We also highlighted staff's connection to our agency's goals through this staff video. Watch for it to be shared on our agency Facebook page this afternoon and be sure to share it with your friends!

Did You Know?
A Note from Business Office/
Human Resources
- Hotel Policy Updates

gwaealog0

The Agency hotel listing has been updated.  A few things to note:

  • The Sleep Inn in Urbandale that has been on our list for several years will be closing in August for renovations, so it has been removed.

  • Several new options have been added - Sleep Inn in WDM at $65 and Fairfield Inn & Springhill Suites at $79 will now direct bill to the Agency.

  • The Comfort Inn in Altoona (across from Prairie Meadows) has also agreed to direct billing at the state rate of $65 so that is a good option for meetings in Altoona.

  • The State of Iowa has also made changes in their state rate hotel listing - hotels in Ankeny have been added.

This document will be linked in the Claims system and it will also be available in the Business Services area of the website.  If you have questions please contact Michelle Bendickson at
319-399-6707 or mbendickson@gwaea.org.
