K-5
Iowa Core Standards: English
Language Arts

Seven workshop series for K-5 general and special education teachers and administrators to learn about the Iowa Core standards.

 

Participants will:
- Understand the structure and how to
navigate the documents.
- Engage in collaborative processes to
deepen understanding of the standards.
- Increase confidence in using Iowa Core
Standards for instructional decisions.

6-12
Iowa Core Standards: English Language Arts & Literacy in Social Studies/History and Technical Subjects

Seven workshops in this series will provide secondary general and special education teachers and administrators opportunities to learn about the Iowa Core standards. Secondary teachers of any content area are encouraged to attend.

 

Participants will:
- Understand the structure and how to
navigate the documents.
- Engage in collaborative processes to
deepen understanding of the standards.
- Increase confidence in using the Iowa Core
Standards for instructional decisions.

 

K-12
Iowa Core: English Language Arts (K-12) & Literacy Standards for Social Studies and History (6-12)

AEA 10 will provide two investigations workshops for K-12 general and special education teachers who teach social studies and history. Teachers of other content areas are encouraged to attend. Content-specific exploration and collaboration opportunities will be provided.

 

Participants will:
- Understand the organization and how to
navigate the documents.
- Collaborate with others to understand the
literacy standards and connections to their
courses.
- Increase their connections to the Iowa
Core Standards when making instructional decisions.

 

Investigations workshops include overview learning as well as deeper study of the ELA standards including the College and Career Readiness Anchor Standards.

6-12
Iowa Core Literacy in Science

The two workshops in this series will provide 6-12 general and special education teachers and administrators opportunities to learn about the Iowa Core Standards for Literacy in Science (6-12), as well as the K-12 Framework for National Science Standards. Secondary science teachers are encouraged to attend.

 

Participants will:
- Learn the structure of the standards and
how to navigate the documents.
- Engage in collaborative processes to
deepen understanding and applications
to science instruction.
- Increase confidence in using the Iowa
Core Standards for instructional
decisions.
- Become familiar with the architecture of
the Next Generation Science Standards
that has been guided by the Framework.

 

Investigations workshops include initial/overview learning as well as deeper study of the K-12 Framework for National Science Standards (published July, 2011) that is guiding development of the Next Generation Science Standards. Final drafts are expected during 2012-2013 academic year.
2 sessions: October 2, 2012 and April 3, 2013

 

What Principals Need to Know about Investigating the Standards:
Iowa Core English Language Arts and Mathematics

An Iowa team comprised of AEA, LEA & DE content experts, and administrators has developed a ½ day learning opportunity specific to administrators’ needs. Grant Wood AEA will provide multiple sessions to accommodate administrators’ schedules.

 

Participants will:
- Deepen understanding of the structure
and content of the Iowa Core Standards
documents
- Become familiar with the content and
learning outcomes of the Investigations
workshops for teachers.
- Have information to support learning
needs/resource allocation decisions for
2012-2013.

Iowa Core Mathematics High School

This 3-day workshop for High School Mathematics teachers, special education teachers, and administrators will include:

 

Day 1 investigation of the structure of Iowa Core Mathematics followed by 2 days of deeper investigations into the conceptual categories, domains, clusters, and standards of high school mathematics.

 

Iowa Core Mathematics Grades 6-8

This 3-day workshop for sixth, seventh, and eighth grade middle school math teachers, special education teachers, and administrators will include:

 

Day 1 investigation of the structure of Iowa Core Mathematics followed by 2 days of deeper investigations into the domains, clusters, and standards of middle school mathematics.

 

Iowa Core Mathematics Grades K-5

This 4-day workshop for K-5 classroom teachers, special education teachers, and administrators will include:

 

Day 1 investigation of the structure of Iowa Core Mathematics followed by 3 days of deeper investigations into the domains, clusters, and standards of K-5 mathematics.
