Joe Crozier Named New Chief of Grant Wood AEA

The Grant Wood Area Education Agency (AEA10) Board of Directors is pleased to announce the selection of a new chief administrator for the agency. Joe Crozier, currently the Chief Administrator for Great Prairie AEA was selected from a field of nine applicants. Crozier will succeed Ron Fielder who has been Chief Administrator at the agency since 1987.

Commenting about his new role at the agency, Crozier stated, "I look forward to working with the board of directors, superintendents, principals, teachers, and Grant Wood AEA staff to grow leadership and teaching skills. The AEA chief administrator has the opportunity to have a huge impact on local district achievement. As the chief administrator, I always remember what the work is like in a local school district and that we must provide leadership and assistance to schools so that every student in every classroom is a successful learner and leads a successful life."

In his new position, Crozier will oversee over 490 full and part-time staff members who provide special education and school improvement services along with technology support for over 70,000 students and 5,000 educators throughout the seven counties served by the agency.

Crozier has held educational administrative positions in Iowa for the last 24 years. He became the chief administrator of Great River AEA in 2002. When the chief for Southern Prairie AEA retired in 2003, Crozier became the chief administrator of that agency as well. In 2007 the two AEAs merged, and he was named the chief administrator for the merged AEA now known as Great Prairie.

Prior to his work in the AEA system, Crozier was the superintendent of schools for Central Lee Community School District in Donnellson, Iowa. Crozier has served in several state and national leadership positions. He was the president of the national Association of Education Service Agencies in 2009-10 and president of School Administrators of Iowa in 2006-07.

Crozier is a graduate of Graceland College in Lamoni, Iowa. He earned his MA from Truman University in 1987 and his Ed.S. in educational administration from Drake University in 1994.

Crozier will assume the responsibilities as Chief Administrator for Grant Wood AEA effective July 1, 2011.

Grant Wood Area Education Agency serves 32 school districts and 22 approved nonpublic schools in Benton, Cedar, Iowa, Johnson, Jones, Linn, and Washington counties. The mission of the agency is to ensure success for all learners.
