Iowa School Board Recognition Week, May 6-12, 2012
"Sowing THE Seeds for Success"

Volunteer school board members serve thousands of hours each year working to ensure every Iowa student receives a solid education.

School Board Recognition Week, May 6-12, 2012, is an opportunity to say thanks to the more than 2,000 men and women who govern Iowa's public education system.

This year's theme, "Sowing the Seeds for Success," recognizes that locally elected school board members are providing leadership, through responsibilities ranging from strong financial stewardship to ensuring high-quality curriculum so all students have a bright, vibrant future ahead of them.

A nine-member board of directors elected by area school boards governs Grant Wood AEA. Board members represent designated segments of the agency’s service area called director districts. They are elected for four-year rotating terms by the school district board members in their director districts. The board is responsible for approving AEA policies, programs and budget.

"Education is the foundation of unlimited possibilities for students," said GWAEA Chief Administrator Joe Crozier. "School board members volunteer their time because they care about students, schools and the communities they serve. We count on school board members for their leadership in providing educational programs in which all students perform at high levels. Thank you for your service to the students in the Grant Wood Area Education Agency service area."

Grant Wood AEA provides educational services for 32 public school districts and 22 approved nonpublic schools in Benton, Cedar, Iowa, Johnson, Jones, Linn, and Washington counties.
