Grant Wood AEA's College for Kids is in its 27th year of offering summer advanced level academic and fine arts courses in the college setting to eligible students in gifted & talented programs who have completed 6th, 7th or 8th grade.

Through the College for Kids experience, students are offered advanced or specialized curricula, and have the opportunity to further explore a hobby or a topic of interest not typically available in middle school general education.

Susie Green, GWAEA student programs specialist, explained that students who are eligible have the opportunity to participate in College for Kids. “It is very exciting to watch the students grow during their time at College for Kids.  And, Coe College provides a wonderful backdrop for this educational opportunity.”

Green estimates that more than 12,500 students in Area 10 have participated in approximately 600 different College for Kids classes since the program began in 1987.

“Grant Wood AEA’s College for Kids has experienced a long history of success due to the ongoing interest of students and parents, as well as support from teachers, and the course instructors,” Green commented.
