Printing Technician
(Digital Print Operator)

Job Summary:

Produces client-focused, high quality printing and bindery services. Supports creation of custom materials that involves both automated systems and some handwork. Works as a team member to prioritize work requests, monitor work queues, and ensure timely completion of projects. Coordinates delivery of print projects.


  1. High school graduate
  2. One year of printing experience.
  3. Demonstrated computer skills.

Essential Functions:

  1. Produces high-quality print products using a variety of printing and finishing equipment.
  2. Imposes/composes artwork to ensure the most cost effective means of production.
  3. Continually monitors print quality by reviewing work as it is printed, and attends to quality issues in a timely manner.
  4. Monitors Printshop System, email and inbound work queues to ensure all incoming jobs are processed on a timely basis.
  5. Maintains required job logs to track daily production and billing.
  6. Assists clients with production information and services offered in the Printshop.
  7. Maintains equipment and demonstrates detailed knowledge of all job/equipment operating procedures.
  8. Troubleshoots printer/file problems and communicates with others, including vendors, as appropriate.
  9. Keeps Printshop work areas well organized, including appropriate storage of supplies.
  10. Prepares jobs for shipping and coordinates delivery of print projects.

Additional Responsibilities:

  1. Keeps accurate inventory of printing/bindery supplies.
  2. Assists in training clients in the use of the Printshop System.
  3. Provides input to supervisor on training and equipment needs of the program.
  4. Develops and maintains proper and adequate records and documentation in accordance with Agency policies and procedures.
  5. Provides backup support for other operators in the printing area. Participates in staff development and professional growth activities.
  6. Participates in projects, committees or activities to support the mission of the program, unit and Agency.
  7. Performs other such duties as may be assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  1. Ability to communicate effectively and maintain effective working relationships.
  2. Ability to function effectively as a team member.
  3. Working knowledge of graphics and printing services.
  4. Working knowledge of all printing and bindery equipment utilized in the printing area.
  5. Working knowledge of services utilized by the program from third party vendors.
  6. Ability to convey a positive and professional image to staff and public.
  7. Ability to process, categorize and file information and forms in accordance with Agency procedure.
  8. Ability to handle information in a confidential manner.
  9. Ability to read and interpret documents, write reports and correspondence, and apply appropriate mathematical concepts.

Physical Requirements:

  1. Normal, routine levels of bending, climbing, carrying, reaching, sitting, standing, and walking,
  2. Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  3. Sufficient manual dexterity to be able to operate printing/bindery and office equipment needed to complete responsibilities including, but not limited to, offset press, high speed copier, folder, cutter, stitcher, binding system, computer, telephone.
