Raising Scientific Literacy in a Time of Climate Change - Paul Kreider Strode
As participants in the University of Iowa's 2018 Darwin Day, "Climate for Change," teachers will attend presentations by prominent scientists and science educators whose research and practice investigate the intersections between Earth's climate and life's evolutionary processes. Questions-and-answer sessions will follow these presentations. Additionally, Darwin Day activities designed especially for science teachers include sessions on the evolution of U.S. environmental education policy since the 1970 Earth Day Teach-in; using natural history museum resources in teaching earth science; teaching race in high school biology classrooms; and using the NCSE No-conflict approach in science classroom discussions. The concluding event is a 3.5 hour, interactive workshop for teachers to help students think, speak and write like scientists.
